The European Parliament has adopted its position on the European Union's budget for 2026. This budget responds to current challenges such as security, the climate crisis and the need to support economic competitiveness. All EU citizens will be affected by these budgetary decisions.
The budget is based on the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 and aims to support anticipated economic growth in 2025-2026. Main objectives include strengthening security and defence, promoting digital and green transitions, and supporting social cohesion.
The budget will enter into force on 1 January 2026 following final approval by the Council. The European Commission will monitor implementation and Member States will coordinate at national level. Budgetary control will be carried out through established institutional procedures.
Citizens will benefit from investments in security, jobs and social protection. Businesses, especially SMEs, will receive support for innovation and competitiveness. Special attention is given to young people and those affected by the climate crisis. The budget complements national budgets and strengthens European cohesion.
