The European Parliament has established the numerical composition of its permanent committees and subcommittees for the new legislative term. This organizational decision ensures the institution's efficient functioning and proper distribution of responsibilities among MEPs. All 705 Members of the European Parliament will be assigned to specialized committees according to this structure.
The decision is based on the European Parliament's Rules of Procedure and previous decisions on committee powers. The main objective is optimal organization of parliamentary work by establishing a clear framework for the composition of specialized committees, which examine legislative proposals and exercise control over other European institutions.
The decision entered into force immediately after adoption in early 2024. The President of the European Parliament is tasked with transmitting the decision to the European Council and European Commission for information. Committees will immediately begin work based on the new organizational structure.
This organization ensures the European Parliament's efficient functioning, ultimately benefiting citizens through well-structured legislative processes. Larger committees will be able to address complex areas like environment or energy, while smaller committees will focus on specialized areas. Balanced distribution of human resources enables more thorough examination of legislative proposals affecting Europeans' lives.
