The European Parliament has adopted its budget for 2026 amounting to €2.64 billion. This decision comes in a context of inflationary pressures and the need to strengthen its institutional role. The budget covers all parliamentary activities from legislative to oversight functions.
The budget falls within the EU's Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 (MFF). Main objectives include maintaining operational capacity, strengthening cybersecurity and digital modernization while respecting principles of budgetary discipline and sound financial management.
The budget enters into force on 1 January 2026. The Secretary-General will report semi-annually to the budget committee on progress of simplification and efficiency measures. Implementation occurs in accordance with the EU Financial Regulation and existing institutional framework.
Citizens will benefit from a more efficient European Parliament in legislative and oversight activities. Investments in cybersecurity and AI will improve data protection and democratic processes. The budget ensures continuity of essential parliamentary activities including support for MEPs and political groups.
